The spelling of Trew is uncertain, and there was also uncertainty whether Trew was her middle name or surname.
However, on the birth certificate of James Ford (born 23/08/1856) the mother's Name and Maiden Surname are recorded as Sarah Trew.
Some members of the family had thought it spelt True. However, in addition to the above birth certificate, William and Sarah's son James who married Ellen Anne Haig named one of their daughter's Sarah Trew (in keeping with a common tradition of using the mother's maiden name as the child's middle name). Also, Trew is a known Irish surname, whereas True has never been found as an Iriish surname.
